Description | Photo supplied by Gerald J. Wasserburg shows him as a rifleman, Charlie Company, 23rd Regiment Infantry, 2nd Division, 3rd Army (United States). Photo taken a few daysafter the US Army took the city of Leipzig, Germany (between April 12-15, 1945). Wasserburg had just turned 18 and was one the first GIs to enter the city. His armaments include an M-1 (Garand) rifle, a hand grenade and two pistols taken from German officers. The one in the shoulder holster is a Luger, the other is a P (Pistole) 38.
